Where are they now?
By Ty Bramlet (Ty)

Now that a lot of the good old Mariners from the 1990's and early 2000's are gone, sometimes we find ourselves asking, "Where are they now?". So... where are they?

Ken Griffey Jr.

After Jr. went to Cincinnati in 2000,he hasn't been the same player. He's fought injuries, and hasn't put up the same numbers since he left, though he has made it back to the all-star game. In 2000, he hit 40 homeruns with a .271 batting average, but the following year, he played only 111 games and only hit 22 homeruns. The next 3 years, he didn't play over 100 games, plagued by injuries again. Now in 2005, he's back and injury free in that explosive Cincinnati Reds outfield.

David Bell

David Bell currently plays full time for the Philadelphia Phillies at third base. When he left Seattle after the 2001 season, he went to the Giants where he had 20 more hits and 5 more homeruns in more at-bats than he got in Seattle. The next year, he went to Philly and only had 348 at-bats, but in '04, he had full playing time again, and hit nearly .300.

Carlos Guillen

Carlos Guillen was traded to the Tigers after 2003, and has since been spectacular. He made the all-star team in 2004, and would have made the all-star team this year if it wasn't for injuries. He hit .318 with Detroit in 2004, proving that it was a mistake to trade him.

Scott Posednik

After playing for Milwaukee in '03 and '04, Scotty Posednik was traded to the Chicago White Sox after 2004, and has been stellar this season so far. Scott has 50 stolen bases... And there is still half of the season left, which means he is on pace for almost 100 stolen bases! He made the all-star team this year too.

Arthur Rhodes

Rhodes pitched for Oakland last year, and is pitching for Cleveland this year. His ERA this year is 2.19 in 39 games. He has 38 strikeouts too. Rhodes is a primary part of the Cleveland bullpen.

John Halama

Halama went to Oakland after 2002, and pitched in 35 games, including 13 starts. In '04 he pitched for the Devil Rays, played 34 games, and started 14. Now he plays for the Boston Red Sox coming out of the bullpen. He's one of the most useful players out their, because he can be a starter, and a reliever.

Ben Davis

Ben Davis was part of the Freddy Garcia trade. The trade was Freddy Garcia and Ben Davis for Jeremy Reed, Miguel Olivo, and Mike Morse. Ben is currently in the White Sox minor league system, working on his swing, but there is no doubt in anyone's mind that he will be back.

John Olerud

Like John Halama, Olerud is on the Red Sox. Jonny-O is the backup first baseman for the Sox, and has done well in the time he's played, including a homerun, 9 RBI's, and 18 hits in 41 games. Last season, after being DFA'd by the Mariners, he played for the Yankees in the playoffs. Olerud hit a homerun with the Yankees in the playoffs also.

Tino Martinez

Tino Martinez played for the Mariners in their magical 1995 season, and now plays with the Yankees. Tino came in second in all-star voting for AL first baseman, and earlier in the season went on a homerun tear, hitting a homerun in almost every game. He has a total of 15 homeruns this season.

Mike Cameron

After being traded to the Mets, Mike has had a hard time staying injury free. This year, he's only played in 59 games, but has hit 10 homeruns hitting .267. Unfortunately, when the Mets came to Seattle earlier in the season for interleague play, Cammy didn't play due to what else? Injuries.

Jay Buhner

Jay is retired, but he is a part time broadcaster for the Mariners. It's always a joy when Jay joins the crew for a day or so.

Kazuhiro Sasaki

Kaz played 4 year here in Seattle before he decided to go back to Japan to play and be with his family. In 4 years in the Majors, he had 129 saves. If he stayed here, he would have had a chance to be one of the best in baseball, but sadly, he decided to go back.
